Heart2Heart Pet Lifeline Grant

The Coulee Region Humane Society is happy to be partnered with Heart2Heart Pet Lifeline to further assist income-eligible La Crosse County residents with emergency or immediate care for their pets. Funded by community donations Heart2Heart seeks to keep beloved pets in their homes and out of the shelter environment by assisting with the cost of care, for those who couldn’t otherwise afford it.

Grant Guidelines

  • Applications must La Crosse County residents.

  • Applicants must be able to provide proof if income eligibility.

  • Grant decisions are based on several factors including: medical necessity, financial need, available funding, and eligibility.

  • Once applicant is approved they are responsible for providing at minimum a photo of the pet needing assistance and a $25 co-copay.

  • Grants are typically $400.

  • $100 grants may be awarded to help with the cost of spaying or neutering your pet at a participating veterinary clinic.

  • Can only be awarded to the same applicant once in a twelve month period.

Spay-Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP)

Spay-Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) is offered by the Coulee Region Humane Society to low income La Crosse County residents to assist with spaying and neutering their cats and/or dogs. Since its inception in 2009, SNAP has helped get nearly 1,000 animals spayed and neutered in La Crosse County.

Please understand that SNAP has limited funds and a completed application does not guarantee assistance can be provided. It is a once in a lifetime program, once a person has gone through the program they are not eligible to go through the program a second time.

Program Guidelines

  • Applicants must be a resident of La Crosse County.

  • Must be a participant of an income eligible program: Badgercare, Foodshare, WIC, or SeniorCare.

  • Must submit a copy of a Driver’s License or State ID and proof of assistance in order for the application to be considered complete. Incomplete applications will not be processed.

  • Applications will be processed in the order they are received. Once processed, applicants will be informed of the next steps.

  • If approved, this assistance only covers pre-alter bloodwork, spay/neuter, and rabies and distemper vaccinations.

  • If approved, you are responsible for the co-pay and cost of pet license, and will be given a voucher at the time the co-pay and license fee are collected.

  • Co-pays are: Cat Spays and Neuters are $60.00, Dog Spay is $150.00, and Dog Neuter is $125.00.

  • License requirements and costs vary by municipality.

Franke Fund

Our community is very fortunate to have the Franke Fund Loan, established by Robert Franke, a dedicated pet lover from La Crosse, Wisconsin who granted the Coulee Region Humane Society the funds to help dog and cat owners with emergency vet care. Throughout the years, his generosity has helped hundreds of pets get the care they need. Because it is a loan it must be paid back, funds available for this assistance program relies solely on clients paying their loans back in a timely manner.

Franke Fund Guidelines

  • Maximum awarded amount is $200, ideally the client pays half and CRHS pays half.

  • This is a loan from CRHS and thus must be paid back repayment plans can be set up in increments the client can comfortably afford.

  • Applicants cannot be approved for additional funds until original loan is paid off, even if the full amount was not used initially.

  • Assists with covering emergency or immediate medical need only – does not cover routine vet care including but not limited to: annual vaccinations, flea/tick preventative, dental cleanings, and grooming.

  • Does not cover euthanasia if the prognosis is not good.

  • Franke Fund does not pay more than $60 for an exam; the client is responsible for paying the vet directly for any exam fee cost beyond $60.

  • Does not cover services that have already been rendered.

  • There are no residential or income requirements to apply for the Franke Fund.
